Private Piano Lessons
Finding the right teacher is so important for successful learning. I always meet with new students for a 20-minute interview lesson at no cost.
Monthly Lessons
Students will be billed on the first lesson of every month for all lessons in the month (amount depending on the number of weeks). Lesson days that fall on holidays, teacher vacations, or student vacations (expressed to the teacher with advanced notice) will not be included in monthly payments. Practice and Performance Requirements
-
Expectations
Consistent practice is critical for musical growth and success in each lesson. Too little or poor practice will negatively affect your goals and progress. I recommend scheduling 30-minutes to 1 hour of practice time, 5-6 days every week (total of 3-6.5 hours weekly). I will give you a practice log as a scheduling aid.
*For children eight years old and younger: Aim for 15-20 minutes each day for 5-6 days weekly. I also recommend dividing practice time at the piano into 10 to 15-minute segments. This will allow students to absorb the material more easily and enjoy practicing more without the difficulty of focusing for long time segments.
-
Instrument
I recommend purchasing an acoustic piano if possible. A weighted, full-length (88-key) keyboard will be fine for beginning students. However, the mechanics of an acoustic piano used for performances and lessons will differ greatly from an electric keyboard. Acoustics occasionally need to be tuned annually or semi-annually. (I can give you recommendations for tuners.) High humidity can cause the strings to go out of tune; it is best to keep them away from windows.
-
Performance Classes
There will be optional performance classes held at the end of each month.
-
Recitals
There will be two Fall 2021 studio recitals: Autumn Recital and Christmas Recital. Participation is highly encouraged but not required. These occasions will be opportunities for students to showcase their well-prepared music. Formal attire is expected.
-
Other Performance Opportunities
Students may also have opportunities to play in festivals and judged examinations.
Behavior Policy
Upon registering for lesson, piano students are expected to prepare well each week, exhibit a willingness and desire to learn, and treat the instructor with respect. Please also be aware that other students may have lessons before and after you; please enter and exit the studio quietly. Thank you!
